Sustainability
Quality and Environment
Quality, energy and environment management is an essential part of our company ethos. Pioneering standards are the norm for us. Through our long-standing partnerships with leading German manufacturers, we bring together exceptional engineering, intelligent design, and a forward-thinking approach to sustainability.
Sustainable forestry
Our German partner was the first kitchen manufacturer in Europe to be awarded the PEFC accreditation which guarantees that the wood used for kitchen furniture manufacture originates from sustainably managed forests.
Sustainable production processes
The ISO 9001 certification has proven our partners’ ability to meet the quality management system criteria to satisfy customer requirements and ensure high products quality, since 1994.
ISO 14001 highlights our German partners’ comprehensive environmental management systems standards since 2007.
The energy management standard 15001, accredited since 2013, demonstrates commitment to continuous improvements in energy efficiency.
Sustainability at our core
An environment worth living in needs protection and commitment. At Prestons, we aim to preserve every natural resource used in our production processes, and our partners share the same vision. Together, we prioritise sustainable forestry, renewable energy, and responsible manufacturing.
Sustainably
Sourced Materials
Our kitchens are crafted using PEFC-certified wood from responsibly managed forests, where a new tree is planted for every one felled. Up to 40% of our chipboard comes from recycled wood, and many plastic components are made from post-consumer materials, giving a second life to millions of items from yoghurt cups to packaging.
Clean Energy
& Production
Our German partner’s state-of-the-art factories operate with renewable energy systems, including large-scale solar installations which generate over 2 million kWh of electricity annually. Heat from wood waste and other production processes is reused to warm buildings, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Reducing Waste
Computer planning in the factory ensures all panels are cut from the boards as efficiently as possible and what little waste there is is fed via hoppers into the factories heating system. With comprehensive recycling systems and reusable packaging loops, almost 98% of all our packaging materials are recyclable. Waste wood is either repurposed or used to generate clean energy, ensuring a closed production cycle.
Sustainable
Transport:
From hybrid rail to low-emission lorry fleets, transport routes are carefully optimised to cut CO₂ emissions. Our partners use long trailers and efficient planning to save tens of thousands of kilometres, and litres of diesel, each year.
Built to last
The most sustainable kitchen is one that doesn’t need replacing. Our German engineering excellence ensures exceptional durability and longevity, so unlike flat pack alternatives our kitchens are built to last and come with a 10 year warranty. Every component used undergoes rigorous testing to exceed international quality standards, and spare parts remain available to customers long after installation, extending product life and reducing waste.
Healthy homes, better living
Sustainability isn’t just about protecting the planet, it’s about protecting people too. Our German partners produce zero-emission, low-formaldehyde furniture certified with the Blue Angel (Blauer Engel) and CARB2 standards. This means cleaner indoor air and a healthier home for every customer.
Innovative features such as Grohe Blue® water systems (reducing the need for plastic bottles) and worktops made from recyclable materials, make our kitchens a win for both you and the environment.
People, planet, and progress
Behind every Prestons kitchen is a network of responsible partners who care about the future, from training young craftspeople to maintaining fair working conditions and investing in employee wellness. Our German partners’ new administrative buildings even meet the KfW 55 energy efficiency standard, consuming just 55% of a standard building’s energy.
Together, we’re proving that sustainability and quality go hand in hand, creating kitchens that are designed for life, built for longevity, and manufactured with respect for people and the planet.
